I love Steam even though I'm not a huge gamer in general. I think the Steam sales and user interface are great for driving sales and making playing with friends very easy. I see no reason why this model wouldn't succeed for console games as well. It could even solve the "used game problem" that current development and distribution companies seem hell-bent on solving.

On top of this news, I saw these photos floating around of the supposed "Steam Box"
So keep this story in mind as the current gen consoles reach the end of their runs. Could be there's a new champ by the time the next gen gets released.
I really do hope they shape it like a companion cube. I really do. As long as the games stay DRM free like they do on Steam then I'm all for it really.
ReplyDeleteMan if that was the real console and somebody decided to play with it physically like toss it around and stuff... Wouldn't somebody be pissed.
ReplyDeleteISHYGDDT
Be interesting, but I have a feeling it might end up like dreamcast and not be able to compete. Never know though.
ReplyDeleteYeah heard about it, it'd be fun to see something this big get done
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me feel a little ignorant with a dash of confused. lol
ReplyDeleteOMG this post had me at "Valve". That pc case mod is so insane... perfect. If there really is a Valve console in the future it's gonna have a lot of competition. This E3 is supposed to reveal some new platforms.
ReplyDeleteIf Valve really does make the Steam Box in the shape of a companion cube, people will go crazy. Crazy I tell you.
ReplyDeleteLove that!
ReplyDeleteIf it looked like that I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Steam would be able to put that much power into that fan made PC if that would be the console. I remember in another article that the console would have an equivalent of a Core i7, which in summary would be beast.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, if the Steam box ended up looking like that I'd throw my money at Valve even faster!
ReplyDeleteE3 2012: Introducing the GabeCube!
ReplyDeleteI will sooooooo buy this!
ReplyDeletethat's just an old casemod
ReplyDeleteproject log is up on bit-tech.net
though it would be nice if they did something like this if they do make a platform.
